Werfen significava originalmente “girar, virar, enrolar”, portanto “arremessar girando o braço”, e agora “jogar, lançar”. Também significa “dar à luz”, esp. animais. Alguns dos derivados de werfen são Wurf, um “lançamento, lance” de uma bola ou de dados (Wurfel), e entwerfen, “PROJETAR”; também vorwerfen, “reprovar; derrubar”, e Vorwurf, uma “reprovação”, aos quais Heidegger devolve o sentido original, “lançar diante, o lançamento diante” de si mesmo de, por exemplo, possibilidades (SZ, 145) ou de um mundo (GA24, 239). O participio passado de werfen é geworfen, “lançado”. A partir dele, Heidegger forma um substantivo, Geworfenheit, “ser-lançado”. [DH:170]
