NT: Significance (Bedeutsamkeit), 83-87 (§ 18), 104, 110-111, 123, 129, 143-148, 151, 158, 161, 166, 186-187, 192, 209-210, 297, 334, 343, 364-366, 414, 422-423, 427. See also Understanding; World [BTJS]

(SZ, 87, cf. 359s, 364). [DH:172-173]

Bedeutsamkeit (meaningfulness, significance) — Already in KNS 1919 [GA56-57], regarding the environing world, it is said: “The meaningful is the primary . . .” (Zur Bestimmung der Philosophie 73). Suffixed as a terminological present perfect “-ness” first in WS 1919-20 [GA58], and identified as the containing sense of the relational sense of caring in WS 1921-22 [GA61]. In SS 1925 [GA20], doubts are expressed regarding its appropriateness to describe the phenomenon involved, namely, the relation between discursiveness and world (GA20:275/202); but it remains the defining character of “worldlings” into BT.
